Toxic masculinity
I wrote this little thread on Twitter about young men and the crazy world in which they live. One in which they’re bombarded with the terrible fact that they have been born male.
Young women also have very similar problems but it’s the young men who are killing themselves in a whole bunch of creative ways. Here is the mini thread below.

It’s funny how on every other article that deals with difficult mental health issues the media have that “if you’ve been affected by” charity plug. Not here, yet three times as many young men kill themselves as young women. Shouting toxic masculinity is not helping anyone

It’s lazy journalism, lazy public health and it’s very dangerous. “Toxic masculinity” is a thing. But toxic journalism and it’s constant attack on young men and what hormones and yes society drive them to become is making the problem a lot worse

Why can’t we give young men a positive role model? Like getting an education, falling in love, having kids, getting a dog & working hard to bring up a family? Those are the things in life that bring happiness and meaning yet the role models offered up now are the opposite of this

Shallow pathetic narcissists are presented as role models. Mentally ill people who’ve destroyed their faces with Botox and fillers, who’s teeth look like they’ve been made out of a cut up piece of white plastic and who are bereft of any moral or familial values

I can’t imagine how hard it must be to be a young man in our modern world. A constant barrage of meaningless, fake, plastic, sexualised crap all pumped through your mobile phone to you as life goals by a media that only wants the clicks. It’s f****** mental
